BROKAW: This requires only a yes or a no. Ronald Reagan famously said that the Soviet Union was the evil empire. Do you think that Russia under Vladimir Putin is an evil empire?

OBAMA: I think they've engaged in an evil behavior and I think that it is important that we understand they're not the old Soviet Union but they still have nationalist impulses that I think are very dangerous.

DP wrote that Obama's answer was simply "Yes".

I agree with Glen Davidson. The controversy over what should be taught in schools is NOT about worshipping Darwin, it is about the magic of creationism versus the reality of evolution-based science.

To say that there had to be a "designer" is a leap of faith.

Each Christmas, Rationality is strengthened by telling children to believe in Santa Claus.
When they mature and find out that it is just a story to make them behave a little each year, they can hopefully see the parallels with religion.

Instead of accepting that there are things which are not fully understood at present, you make the leap that there was an "intelligent/sapient" designer.

You can call it whatever you like, you're still advocating creationism.

The definition of sapient is "having or showing great wisdom or sound judgment".

One of the synonyms for "sapient" is "intelligent".

How does "Sapient Design" differ from Intelligent Design? Don't they mean the same thing?

He said the nativity story in St Luke's Gospel, in contrast, had a "message of joy and good news for everyone".

"Good news, everyone! I offer you everlasting life!"
The only stipulation being that if you reject this offer you will burn in Hell for all of eternity.

You're welcome.
