New Rule: Atheism is not a religion! Unbaptizes Mitt Romney's Dead Father-In-Law! - Comments

I'd like to see Bill Maher debate some of the same people Hitchens debated. Humor is a very effective means of showing obvious truth. It can be blunt and brutal, but it really does get the job done. Maher isn't a heavyweight like Hitchens or Dawkins, but he's intelligent. With a little preparation he'd be great.

Don't discriminate against pony-tailed male atheists. That's too much to bear.

So much goodness. The "abstinence is a sex position" comparison is terrific and the unbaptism; what can I say? Superb.

I want an un-baptism too - I wonder if Bill Maher would offer a mass un-baptism at the Reason Rally in March??

I usually don't go for Maher. But...

That was simply brilliant, fabulous, awesome. Can I put my name down in advance for a posthumous de-baptism, just in case?

Epic! I saw Bill's show last year, and I can honestly say I haven't laughed that hard in years.

Also, "atheism is a religion like abstinence is a sex position". Awesome!

Nice, except about the pineapple. Mmm, pineapple.

The Mormons need to start a protection racket: "Those are some fine, freethinking ancestors you got there, professor. It would be a shame if someone where to baptize them."

When I think of the 5 Atheists living or dead I would love to have dinner with, Bill Maher usually doesn't make the list. But after this, he can definitely stop by for dessert.

I have always enjoy Maher's anti religious quips but as I have never followed showbiz and celebs, I can't understand many of his other jokes. This was fun.

Can anyone tell what the guy that shouts at 5:36 is trying to say? It sounds like "f_ck you!" but that's probably just what my dirty mind heard.

15. Andrew. Yes you are right. I actually discerned more than one person shouting it in unison....sounded like two to me.

Brilliant skit.....simply brilliant!!!!! At first the guy to Maher's left didn't seem at all amused. By the middle he was cracking up too. Loved it!

Even great minds who should know better try and add more and more onto the definition of atheism. There is even a political party in America called The National Atheist Party.

Atheism means only that, "I am not a theist" it does not mean I'm necessarily rational, nor liberal nor intelligent, nor moral. Atheism is on the extreme fringe of my world view, like all the other non beliefs in magical things. Why would I define myself in the negative to a group of people who I consider insane in the first place?

The word atheist, which is on the front of my nickname, is a fingers up to those who want to define me, it's not meant to define me or make me belong, it's a rejection of belonging.

Outdoing the Mormons by debaptising an atheist who had been posthumously baptised! Lets have more of actions like this.

LOL brilliant! My favourite part:

I'm not saying that atheists are perfect thinkers, everyone has blind spots. I'm sure there are atheists who think ponytails look good on a man, pineapple belongs on a pizza or that Ayn Rand was an important thinker, but when it comes to religion we're not "two sides of the same coin" and you don't get to put your unreason up on the the same shelf with my reason.

"show me the bones... show me the carcases...and I ´ll believe in evolution"(Wendy Wright to Richard Dawkins)

and

"show me the God... and I´ll believe it"

are not two sides of the same coin either...

Ridicule of religion will have more effect in the long run than any other tactic I can think of.

Nice, funny piece.

An interesting angle to the theist insistance that atheism is a religion is that it appears to be derogatory. In other words, they seem to be saying that we are just as deluded as they are. I think it could be construed as some sort of backhanded, unintended compliment; or maybe it's just insecurity at work.

It's like they are screaming on the playground: "Your mama is just as fat as mine!"

Interesting. Anyone else got an idea about why this is so important to the religious to paint us as "just another religion?"
